An “MTV” sofa, designed by Craig Morrison *

This sofa was only produced in small numbers, and in different colours: a black variant for MTV’s ‘idents’, and versions in red and grey for the ‘bug’ presentation stalls. Craig Morrison’s initial work as a concept designer for the British underground group Meat Beat Manifesto (“Babylon”, founded in 1988) prompted him to develop the qualities of his latex costumes into a commercial range of products. MTV commissioned him to design seven idents for their European programming. The costumes and sets he produced for this MTV commission were moving away from their usual animated slots. The idents took four weeks to produce, each one lasting approximately 30 seconds.
