Germany, 2012, solid brass, soldered, stainless steel seat, blue dyed wooden veneer (‘artificial veneer’), signed: Xaver 2012, height 74.5 cm, width 45.5 cm, depth 47 cm, height of seat 45 cm. (DRAX)
From the “framework chairs” project, which comprised three different chairs. This brass chair is a unique piece. The other two chairs are made of steel.
“framework” is straightforward, open, and authentic. The construction is extremely reduced in terms of design and material and resembles a graphic sketch representing the rudimentary idea of a chair. In its disturbing fragility, the “framework chair” invites the spectator to take a seat. Contrary to the projects “No Chair” (2009) and “Paravant Chair” (2012), this chair, however, does not defy function: provided that the spectator is willing to interact with “framework”, he will be surprised that sitting in this chair is entirely comfortable.”
