Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, (1832-1867) –stone cross from the 1st memorial site (place of execution) on the Cerro de las Campanas in Queretaro,
pink flysch, monogram in relief "MM" (Maximilian Mexiko), stone base, height 61,5 cm, in original wooden transport crate (side pieces missing), also handwritten letter of Consul Santiago R. Jimeno to Emperor Franz Joseph I re the transport of the cross in 1906, and accompanying documentation concerning the cross.
A monument was erected in 1884 on the Cerro de las Campanas in Queretano consisting of 3 square columns with the names of those executed, the monument was encircled by a railing which was fixed to 4 corner posts. A cross of pink flysch stood on each of the four posts. The crosses were removed when a memorial chapel was built on the spot. This cross was brought to Austria by the consul of the time. Interesting souvenir of the execution of the Emperor in Queretaro in 1867.
