The present painting can be attributed to Johann Lingelbach on the grounds of its stylistic features. Lingelbach, who is predominantly known for his Italianate scenes, painted many hunting scenes inspired by the compositions of the popular Philips Wouwerman in the last decades of his artistic production after his return from Italy to Amsterdam until his death in 1674. Catja Burger-Wegener mentions a large group of Lingelbach’s hunting scenes, with elegantly clothed figures, which originated around the end of the 1650s (see C. Burger-Wegener, Johannes Lingelbach: 1622–1674, Berlin 1976).
