Adolf Stademann
(Munich 1824–1895)
Iceskaters in the Evening Light, signed, dated Adolf Stademan. 1869, oil on canvas, 88 x 140 cm, framed, (Rei)
Trained as a landscape painter by Carl August Lebschée and Moritz Lotze, Adolf Stademann turned his artistic attention to depictions of winter, influenced by 17th century Dutch landscape painting. His early works were also significantly influenced by Eduard Schleich the Elder’s night paintings. The precise observation of nature and his handling of light and colour were consistent with prevailing tastes of the time. Works by the artist are held by the Neuen Pinakothek in Munich, amongst others.
