porcelain, body with protruding rim to lip and foot, gilt inner rim, gilt-painted border with gilt stars, gilt flowers with matt gilt leaves on a white ribbon, inner gilding, white well with gilt ivy wreath, to exterior matt gilt rims, burnished and matt gilt-painted floral tendrils with acanthus leaf and ivy festoons, burnished gilt ground, oval medallion with polychrome painted portrait head, framed by burnished and matt gilt foliate tendrils and rosettes, raised gilt loop handle with volute and leaf terminals, height 10.5 cm, Ø 18 cm, small stand to base, fine, wide gilt rims, burnished gilt well with matt gilt leaf tendrils and ivy wreath, Vienna, Imperial Manufactory, impressed shield mark year mark 1833, turner no. 23 Johann Knobloch 1825–1833, gilt painter no. 137 Joseph Geyer 1802–1836, awarded prizes (Ru)

Emperor Ferdinand I, Vienna 19.4.1793–29.6.1875 Prague, Emperor 1835–1848, Ferdinand V, King of Bohemia and Hungary, despite physical disabilities followed his father, Franz I, in protecting the principle of legitimacy. The business of government was taken over by the Staatskonferenz, incl. State Chancellor Metternich and Min. Count Kolowrat-Liebsteinsky, abdicated in 1848 in favour of his Franz Joseph. This portrait cup and saucer was executed in 1833 on the occasion of the 40th birthday of Emperor Ferdinand I.
