1: A large, single-edged knife, stylistic type: 'Pesh Kabz' or ‘Khyber knife' (Afghanistan, Persia). With a long, pointed, Damascus steel blade and bivalve ornamental stone hilt (jade?). The green stone hilt is decorated on both sides, each with two small, round mother of pearl discs. The top of the wooden sheath is covered in black leather and inserted into a forged iron ‘shoe' that ends in a bud. The knife is inserted along with the sheath into a brown leather holster and would be worn hanging on the hips. 19th century; L: 47 cm.
2: A second large, single-edged knife, stylistic type: 'Pesh Kabz' or ‘Khyber knife' (Afghanistan, Persia). With a long, pointed, steel blade and black horn hilt. The top of the wooden sheath is covered in brass and inserted into a forged iron ‘shoe’ that - slightly bent forward - ends in a bud. The knife is inserted along with the sheath into a brown leather holster (as above). 19th century; L: 50 cm.
3: A typical Masai shortsword (Kenya, Tanzania). Called: 'Seme'. With a double-edged, iron blade widening in front. The round hilt is wrapped with leather straps. The sheath, made of originally dyed red leather, is sewn and terminates in a flat copper ring. First half of the 20th century; L: 55 cm. (ME)
