1: A rod of a dignitary, probably from East Ethiopia. Made of hard, heavy wood and dyed black. The upper end of the handle with 12 offset rings in geometrical relief patterns. A hemispheric finial. L: 102 cm.
2: At the centre of this typical Vere chain from East Nigeria (on the Cameroon border) hangs a large, conical metal disc, the edge of which is decorated with small metal spheres (diameter: c. 11 cm). The large disc hangs on a chain consisting of 36 small metal pearls. All metal parts are made of yellow cast-alloy (brass) and executed with ‘waste mould’ casting. Good patina. L: c. 40 cm (entire chain).
Both objects in this mixed lot: Between the beginning and first half of the 20th century. (ME)
