1: Kuba (or Bakuba): A pestle made of ivory, for a wood mortar, which women receive for their wedding in the whole area of settlement of the Kuba people in central Congo (see also cat. no 110). With yellowish patina and especially shiny usage patina on the retracted handle. L: 27.3 cm.
2: Songye: An elegant, small side-blown horn, with oval blow hole and conical, slightly enlarged mouthpiece. An enlarged finial with hole at the upper end. Remains of a brown carrying cord in the middle. The lower end covered in animal fur (5 cm). With very beautiful, old, yellowish-brown patina. Small old pieces broken off in the lower section. L: 29 cm.
3: Mangebtu, Mongo or Lega: A small side-blown horn made of ivory, with oval blow hole and an offset, enlarged mouthpiece. With yellowish-brown patina. A tear underneath the mouthpiece, small pieces broken off in the lower section. L: 33 cm.
4: Mangbetu or Lega: A side-blown trumpet made of ivory, with oval blow hole and slightly enlarged mouthpiece. The upper end is not pierced. Originally decorated with two metal bands. With fastening eyelets, and yellowish old patina. L: 48 cm.
