“Let me live as an artist – let me live as a child”
(Marino Marini)
“In parallel to the female nudes, riders, and portraits, Marini was always fascinated by the world of the circus and theatre. As with many other artists of his time, the spell of the circus, with its jugglers and their harmonious bodies, the masks and the atmosphere of joy mixed with melancholy profoundly affected him. On-stage make-believe, a crude metaphor for life itself, the brilliant colours of the costumes and the backdrops can be found in all their vivacity (…). Marini tackled the theme of show business (…) up until the last years of his life, painting with an increasingly sparkling and vibrant palette merry jugglers who almost seem to be dancing with their horses in rediscovered harmony.”
