“Between 1930 and 1936, Prampolini would create a series of landscapes and cosmic organisms in which the lessons of Arp and Mirò happily bear fruit”. In the works of those years the artist “is able to translate his symbolic and mythical intentions into images that are both completely invented and absolutely concrete; but they indicate significant stages not only in Italy (where until then the only one to push himself in a similar direction was Licini, who had independently discovered Mirò and the Surrealists) but within European art of the Thirties itself. These works rightly insert themselves into the process of immersion and organic liquefaction of the surrealist images which through Masson and Matta would emerge later in the experiences of Gorky and informal poetics.”
