Qashqai Shishboluki,
Southwest Persia (Iran), c. 274 x 146 cm, end of the 19th century, Qashqai-carpets display a variegated use of motifs in a finely knotted pattern with low pile, the present piece with dark blue field presents a clearly recognisable tree of life motif with scattered motifs of flowers and animals, white, halved niche rhombi with beautiful Qashqai emblems reaching into the field are a classic decorative pattern, the carpet was manufactured by the Shishboluki tribes probably as an ornamental carpet for festive occasions, excellent condition with consistently deep pile wool.
