Prof Werner Sumowski called the author of two paintings depicting the “Return of the Prodigal Son” the ‘mongrammist PLP’ on grounds of their monogram. One of the pictures is preserved in the Collection of Mr and Mrs William Treul, Milwaukee, USA, the other in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (cf. W. Sumowski, Die Gemälde der Rembrandt-Schüler, vol. IV, Landau/Palatinate 1983, 2933 and 2934). The present painting is an important addition to the monogrammist’s hitherto known oeuvre.
