Groenewegen’s oeuvre shows the influence of Bartholomeus Breenbergh and Jacob Pynas. In 1626 he moved to Rome, where he joined the “Bentvueghels”. Groenewegen was able to link Netherlandish landscapes in calm, balanced compositions with the impressions of his journey to Italy.
