Matthias de Visch

We are grateful to Dr Jan de Maere, Brussels, for confirming the present painting as a work by de Visch.
According to De Visch’s biographer Peter Ledoulx, the painter received his training in the studio of Jozef van den Kerckhoves in Bruges. As early as 1721 he received the first prize of the Academy of Drawing, founded in 1717. De Visch later travelled to Paris and Italy. He conducted intensive studies in Venice, Parma and Piacenza.
