We are grateful to Nicholas Turner for his suggestion of the attribution. He considers the painting to be an early work of Gennari’s, probably executed before the painter travelled to France and England, where he worked at the courts of Louis XIV and Charles II. The aristocrat Francesco Corte came from Modena and was an agent for Duke Francesco I d’Este (1610-1658).
