The present painting is a slightly modified copy of a painting by Wouwerman in the collection of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, Boughton House (probably identical with the one published by B. Schumacher, Philips Wouwerman, The Horse Painter of the Golden Age, Doornspijk 2006, cat. no. A58.3).
