Northern Italian School of the early 18th century
Allegory of vanity, oil on canvas, 105.1 x 74.3 cm, framed
Provenance:
coll. Marquis and Marquise Piero Massoni-Errera, Brussels.
It has not been possible to convincingly attribute this painting to an artist, despite its obvious high quality. Attributions to Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini (1675-1741) and Antonio Cifrondi (1655-1730) have been suggested. Dr John Spike, Florence, considers the picture to be an authentic work by Pellegrini.
