We are grateful to Dr Daniele Sanguineti for confirming the authenticity of this painting on the basis of a photograph. He suggests a date of the first decade of the 18th century, at around the time of Piola’s stay in Rom. We would also like to thank Prof Riccardo Lattuada, who has independently confirmed the authenticity of this work.
