Provenance: Baron von Handel-Mazzetti

The (noble) lineage, originally from North Brabant, appears for the first time in1364 with Evrart van Handel, who held the office of alderman, at the Inventaris of Gemende Gemmert (archive of the Gemende Gemmert). Emperor Charles V raised the brother’s status to the peerage, for Sebastian, Sebold and Gotthard in Regensburg on 14 July 1541. The secure lineage begins with Franz Handel (son of George and Agatha Herrmann), who was married to Ms. Anna Deutsch in 1601 in Weissmain, Germany, whose descendants were in the service of the German Empire Knights in Mergentheim. Dr. Petrus von Handel led the civic coat of arms of his father since 1660 as a recognized aristocratic coat of arms.

Paul Anton v. Handel (b. 1776) had twelve children from his three marriages, six of whom had descendants. From these lines emerged in the wake Handel-Mazzetti and Handel, the latter were divided again into the lines "Hagenau Castle" and "Castle Almegg". (Upper Austria)

Two sons, Paul Anthony, Ludwig (1804-1864) and Heinrich (1806 to 1887) were high-ranking military officers and married two sisters, Annette and Caroline (Baroness) Mazzetti di Rocca Nuova and founded their name’s association in 1849 for the lineage of Handel-Mazzetti.
