porcelain, polychromed and gilt, of pitcher form, the body with wide gilt edging, handle with reeds wound with a light purple rim, small winged genius with fluttering cloth reclining in a shell, water lettuce, small shells, snails, coral branches and leafy branches, the neck and foot with moulded, shells heightened with light purple and gilt, polychrome painted dragonflies, insects and water beetles on a white ground, the facing side of the baluster with seated Neptune in shell with reins in the left hand and 4 hippocampi, a swimming mermaid, centre with 4 sailing ships and turtle, the base with 3 dolphins, reverse side with light blue to turquoise waves, Height: 64, cm restorations; Meissen, underglaze blue crossed swords 2nd half 19th cent., model no. 320, former no. 121, red painter no. 49, model by Johann Joachim Kändler 1741, Serie der 4 Elemente (Ru)
Neptune, Roman god of water, identical in character to Greek Poseidon.
