Lit.:
Meissen für die Zaren, Porzellan als Mittel sächsischer-russischer Politik im 18. Jahrhundert, Munich 2004, p 66-85, ill.; "The "Andreas/St Andrew" service comprises a dinner-, coffee-, tea-, and chocolate service. The name derives from the central decorative element featured on all parts of the dinner service – the cross of the Order of St Andrews, Tsarist Russia's highest decoration created by Peter I., (reg. 1682-1725), in the year 1698. The occasion for presenting the service interestingly only occurred after production of the service had been finished: The wedding of the Russian heir apparent, the Tsar's nephew Karl Peter Ulrich von Holstein-Gottorf, the future Tsar Peter III. (reg. 1761-1762), and Sophie Auguste Friederike von Anhalt-Zerbst, the future Tsarina Catherine the Great, (reg. 1762-1796)."
