glass, colourless, 64 items: eleven aperitif glasses height 14 cm, twelve long drink glasses height 14 cm, twelve beaker glasses height 9 cm, eight white wine glasses height 17 cm, nine red wine glasses height 18 cm, twelve champagne glasses height 14.5 cm, sides with cut décor of spheres, ridges, lancets, base of body and node with diamond cuts, facet shaft, base with etched mark Cristallerie Saint Louis, France and ray cuts St. Louis, France, second half of the twentieth century, model 'Tommy', designed in 1928 (Ru)
The mouth-blown, hand-cut crystal glasses are elaborately made and rich in detail. The making of one glass takes ten days and occupies ten glass blowers for the shape and five glass cutters for the cut. Its fame is based on a legendary dinner in 1938: On the occasion of a visit by King George VI, the place of every guest in the mirror hall in the Palace of Versailles was set with eleven glasses from the 'Tommy' series.
