Provenance: Austrian private collection.
Jan Savery, active in Amsterdam and Utrecht, was the nephew and pupil of Roelant Savery. Even if he painted motifs from his uncle’s repertoire, he was an independent artist who gave his paintings an individual character, such as, for example, in wooded landscapes like the present painting. We are grateful to Dr Joaneath Spicer, Baltimore, who has studied the painting in the original, for her kind assistance with the cataloguing of this painting.
