Montemezzano, whose style closely resembles that of the present portrait, was a student of Veronese. He was active in Verona and Venice, as well as in Sacile, working with Pordenone. He was under the influence of Veronese’s festive and decorative style and was later inspired by Tintoretto’s Mannerism.
