Moroni in 2002, sterling silver, number 7 in an edition of 10, 4-piece: coffee pot (height 26.9 cm), tea pot (height 25.7 cm), milk jug (height 19.2 cm), sugar bowl (height 9.8 cm), flip lids, all pieces marked: SAWAYA/MORONI/ 07.2002/925 including Italian silver hallmark. (DR)
The coffee pot, tea pot, milk jug and sugar bowl fit into one another and form a whole, like a three-dimensional puzzle. The form changes, depending on whether the service is in use or not. Its mode of presentation is that of a compact structure which may easily be carried around. In formal terms this sculpture makes use of the notion of combining and contrasting objects which are either completely vertical or completely horizontal. The tea pot has a flat, broad, organic form, whilst the coffee pot rises above this landscape like a tower. When in functional mode these objects are turned around and tilted. The form of each piece is such that when tilted upon its axis, it reveals its spout, creating an entirely new compositional form.
No. 7 of a limited edition of 10. In perfect condition.
Provenance: private collection, Austria
Literature: cat. Zaha Hadid, Architektur/Architecture, Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna 2002
