Dainty bureau plat,
France, end of the 18th/beginning of the 19th century. Made mostly in oak with mahogany veneer, turned fluted legs, 1 drawer, richly chased and crafted bronze mounts and edging around the top, brown leather lining with gold decoration, this with some wear. Stamped C. RICHTER (Charles Erdman Richter, maître from 1784). Ca. 73.5 x 117 x 60.5 cm. Restored, structural elements in the drawers and base replaced. (MIN)

Francois Comte de Salverte "Les Ebenistes du XVIII siècle, p. 278 and Denise Ledoux-Lebard "Le mobilier francais du XIX siècle, pp. 554-555. Charles Erdman Richter was often commissioned to carry out work by Jean Henri Riesener. There are also some works which bear both signatures.
