A necklace, designed and manufactured by Jacqueline I. Lillie* c. 1990,

‘It is the enormous delicacy of her work that makes it so outstanding, but which also makes one think of the countless hours going into it. Every single bead is threaded and knotted by hand to ensure the suppleness and flexibility of the final product’ (Dr. Elisabeth Schmuttermeier, curator of the Metal Department of the Wiener Werkstätte Archives, Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/MAK, in: Jacqueline I. Lillie, Works, Arbeiten, Oeuvres 1990–97, p. 7). Jacqueline I. Lillie, born in Marseille in 1941, studied at the Vienna Academy of Applied Arts in the metalwork master class under Professor Hagenauer from 1962 to 1965. She had numerous solo exhibitions in Vienna, New York, Sydney, and other cities in Austria, the USA, Canada, and Australia and received several awards for her work, which is conserved in the collections of important museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cooper Hewitt, and the Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, as well as the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna.
