Hans Staudacher *

Hans Staudacher * - Sou?asné um?ní

(born St. Urban in 1923) Untitled, signed, dated H. Staudacher 59–68, mixed media with oil, collage on jute, 188 x 300 cm, on stretcher, (K)

Even as far back as the fifties Staudacher had written: “Painting and poetry no longer explain, they act.” That led consequently to the development of his artistic “handwriting”; although it altered slightly with the passing of time, in its substance it remains unchanged even to the present day.
Staudacher’s art spontaneously captures moments in time, dashes them off, binds them into collages, sometimes with small scraps of material; caught prestissimo or staccato with rhythmically printed type and impossible to overlook or overhear. There is a series of pictures and gouaches which Staudacher repeatedly overpainted and completely altered over the years. The times are bound together, and simultaneously the phenomenon of time is made transparent: staying in time via spontaneous action and the piling up of disparate moments. Thus even the transient can be held fast, when the traces fade….
