Andy Warhol’s portrait commissions are an important element in his complete body of work and represented a real opportunity for him to satisfy his urge to document the world around him. Andy Warhol began his portrait commissions at the end of 1969, either having sharp and crystal clear Polaroid photos sent to him, or taking the shots himself in his studio, usually for his screen printing. The portrait drawing of the singer Miguel Bosé was created 1983, also as a commission, for the record cover of Miguel Bosé’s two albums “Made in Spain” and “Milano-Madrid”. “His portraits document all the famous personalities, artists, the wealthy and the powerful, whom he met and who sometimes became his friends; a comprehensive documentary, an astounding array of faces, a glimpse into the European and American culture of his time for future generations.”
