These instruments, designed to take the place of language, draw the observer into the work and galvanise their consciousness. The gestural painting of this Venetian artist strives to continue out into the room, thereby attempting to reach out to its observers. The works from this period often deal with political or civic themes, accusations of violence and power. Vedova’s concentration on opposites, on life and death, are manifested in the contrasts of his wildly painted works.
