Prof. George Knox compares this painting with several similar small-format representations of the Madonna by Giandomenico Tiepolo, in particularly those in the Zotto Collection, Budapest, which have the same fluid style of paint application and are of the same size. Equally closely related to this painting is the Madonna in the Mond Collection, New York. Mariuz dates the Dal Zotto painting to the 1770s, which probably applies also to the present work. Another stylistically related work which depicts St. Joseph with the Christ Child has been located by Prof. Knox in the Museo Cicivo di Padova (Mariuz, 289, 284).
