Provenance: Royal House of Wittelsbach, Germany; Sotheby’s Auction, Amsterdam 17. Dec. 2008 “From a Royal Household”, Lot 28. Karl Adolf Gugel: The artist studied and worked in Munich, exhibiting his works, portraits and genre paintings annually at the Kunstverein. The atmosphere in his works harks back to the Venetian masters. From 1869 onwards he exhibited regularly in Munich’s Glaspalast.
