Model II, designed and produced by Micheal Thonet circa ca. 1840/42, the structure made from bent wood and strips of wood glued in layers, with rosewood veneer, the turned rails and upholstery replaced, some ageing and wear. (DOC) Michael Thonet (1796-1871) experimented in his workshop in Boppard (Germany) with thin glued wood veneers and a plywood technique, which he formed into loops and swirls by means of bending and templates. After moving to Vienna he produced items of seating furniture which are now considered historical documents of the nascent industrial age.
