The pendant to this painting signed J. B. Schätzell was sold on 22.06.2009 at Tajan, Paris, as lot 129. Johann Baptist Schätzell, who was active in Paris in the workshop of Doyen, produced idealised landscapes with rich figural groups, such as in the present painting. In the main his subjects were village celebrations and tavern scenes, which corresponded with the “gout néerlandais” of the period.
