West Anatolia (Turkey), c. 415 x 307 cm, about 1920, carpets in coarse knotting with pastel colours, white ground and simple design were very popular in Europe and America in the early 20th century; this recurring trend reached its zenith in the USA in about 1990, when these carpets were traded at exorbitant prices; meanwhile these items are almost completely sold out in the East and hard to come by today; the present carpet with wool foundation is in a solid, very good state of preservation and boasts a pile without damage, the original edges and finishes have survived.
