Beijing Palace Carpet Silk,
Northeast China, c. 240 x 121 cm, first half of the 19th century, silk phoenix-and-peony carpet with central disc medallion brocaded with metal threads, and metallic semicircular spandrels, the inscription in the upper golden border states that the carpet is dedicated to the emperor and was manufactured for the Palace of Great Benevolence, the living quarters of the emperor’s wives in the Forbidden City; deep silk pile, both ends with woven finishes have survived, additional silk decorative fringes are attached.
