The Schikanedersteg was a walking- or so called “chain bridge” which two building contractors named Jaikl and Drechsler had erected on their own costs. The bridge was therefore only passable against payment. Thirty years later the bridge became the property of the Vienna Municipality and since then was passable without costs. At this time the passage way was called “Schikanedersteg”. When Vienna river was vaulted the bridge become redundant and eventually completely removed in 1905. (B. Hagerty)
