A sacred house Tolai karyatid.
Wood, 251 x 40 x 17 cm.
Collected in New Britain in situ by Loed van Bussel, together with the marawot figure in the Musee Quai Branly. This is the only known figure left to support the sacred man’s house. The Large Bonito represents the communication spirit to contact the ancestors.
