An Oriental pearl necklace by Carlo & Arthur Giuliano

An Oriental pearl necklace by Carlo & Arthur Giuliano - Klenoty

gold 750, some enamelling, Oriental pearls diameter c. 3.2-6.8 mm, length c. 42 cm, fastening signed C. A. G., 26 g, workmanship c. 1900, no x-ray exam conducted on this object, original case inscribed C & A Giuliano 115. Piccadilly London The Italian goldsmith Carlo Giuliano opened his workshop in Soho, London, in 1860. He learnt his trade from Castellani in Rome, which also explains his penchant for the creation of jewellery based on models from classical antiquity. In 1874, he opened his own shop on 115 Piccadilly, London, and became renowned for his exceptional jewellery creations. Among other things, he manufactured a pendant for Queen Victoria as a wedding gift for her goddaughter Victoria Grey. This piece is now on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum. In 1895, his sons Carlo and Arthur took over the business and continued their father’s goldsmith tradition. In 1912, the company relocated to 48 Knightsbridge only to close down just two years later after Arthur Giuliano’s tragic suicide.
