Arabatchi Chuval,
West Turkestan, c. 68 x 144 cm, first half of the 19th century, wefts: wool and cotton; among the most beautiful and also rarest chuvals are Arabatchi pieces, with three complete, Tekke-like, high “lobed guls” and archaic Arabatchi secondary motifs, parts of the pattern in the present specimen are manufactured in cotton, whereas silk would be used in later pieces; partially low pile, both finishes have been reduced.
