Ersari Kejebelyk,
South Turkestan, c. 52 x 150 cm, late 19th century, oblong pieces such as the present one are also referred to as “trapping”, they were never in use as bags and hence had no back part, according to carpet research these items were used as camel adornment for the bridal procession and would hang on both sides of or, in the case of longer pieces, all around the bridal litter, the present hanging shows a Salor “kejebe” decoration; both finishes have survived, partially low pile, newly overcast side edges.
