Tekke “Animal Tree” Ensi,
West Turkestan, c. 150 x 112 cm, second half of the 19th century, a tree symbol flanked by an animal goes back to a Mesopotamian motif that has been adopted by many artistic cultures in Asia, as is also the case with the lower panel of the present carpet manufactured by Tekke nomads, with classic partition into four quadrants featuring insi kush motifs with gable shape and brown floral elem; partly low pile with a few repairs, both finishes trimmed, professionally newly overcast side edges.
