China, c. 174 (185) x 61.5 (65) cm, 17th century, silk cover for throne back, pattern brocaded with metal threads, the ground colour is the original China red as found only in very early carpets and textiles, the upper lotus flower was folded backwards over the backrest of the chair, the two dragon motifs covered the back and the seat, the crane covered the foot part, framed with an exactly distributed lotus flower border, two different meandering borders, good pile, exposed horizontal metal warp threads, the underside backed entirely with linen and mounted on wooden stretcher.
