Ziegler Mahal,
West Persia (Iran), c. 444 x 325 cm, late 19th century, Safavid large floral design on dark blue ground with large main border. In light of its high quality, the present carpet can be recognised as a product of the Swiss company Ziegler & Co. Ltd., which at the end of the 19th century produced carpets in up to 111 Iranian villages. This carpet is fully preserved with original ends, but heavily worn with several low and bare pile areas and a few rewoven areas.
