‘Old Oriental Carpet Design’,
Prof. Dr. Julius Lessing, c. 51.5 x 36.5 cm, 1877, publication with 24 pages of text and 30 colour plates. Dedicated to Her Imperial and Royal Highness, Crown Princess Victoria of the German Empire and Prussia, this work is considered the first book about carpets. The colour illustrations show carpets from the 15th and 16th centuries, which Prof. Lessing reconstructed on the basis of their representations in paintings. The last colour plate (no. 30) is no longer preserved. Otherwise complete, with bumped cover and some foxing to the page inserts.
