After an extensive journey through Europe, Edward Cucuel settled in the Munich area from 1907, where scenes of Lake Starnberg served as his source of inspiration. His paintings with the recurring theme of young women at picnics, taking walks in nature and boat trips were created here and reflect a kind of pure joie de vivre.
Im Schlosspark is a snapshot of a young lady resting in the shade of a tree. Cucuel’s skilful use of powdery pink and warm green tones creates an atmospheric effect and radiates harmony and tranquillity. The woman looking out of the picture captivates the viewer and creates the illusion that they are also part of the scene.
