Günther Förg *
(Füssen 1952–2013)
Untitled, 2001, each signed, dated on the reverse Förg 2001, numbered with stamp 1–4, acrylic on lead on wood, ex. 31 from the edition of 36 (plus artist’s proofs) each 30.2 x 20.3 x 2 cm, ed. Galerie Fahnemann, Berlin (4)
The work is registered in the Günther Förg archive with the no. WVF 01.8.0336
We are grateful to Michael Neff of the Estate Günther Förg for the kind assistance and the authentication of the work.
Provenance:
Private Collection, Switzerland
Gunther Förg uses the lead sheet mounted on wood as the substrate onto which he applies acrylic paint. Since the lead does not absorb the paint, paint and medium do not combine irreversibly. The paint, applied in various layers, is subject to different drying processes, through which individual hues are created. The shine of the metal contrasts with the matt colour of the acrylic to great effect, the partial unevenness of the material being an inherent part of the work.
