probably Flanders, c. 162 x 89 cm, early 17th century. Wool and silk embroidery on plain weave depicting a scene from the life of Jesus. This early specimen features the birth of Jesus Christ with Mary and Joseph and the three Wise Men. It captivates its viewers through its striking plasticity and depth. It is probably the opening piece of a series, from which other parts are offered separately. Fragmented, with several small damaged areas and some wear to the pattern. Lined. (VP)
