Caucasus, c. 208 x 171 cm, second half of the 19th century. An important village rug from the southwestern Caucasus. Carpets such as the present one display considerable differences in quality. Their wool and colours are often especially beautiful, but the internal design of the ornaments can look unpolished and crowded in many pieces. However, the present item clearly reveals lightness and dexterity, which make it one of the best examples of its type. Completely original and largely preserved with deep pile. A crease to the upper border. Traces of usage. (VP)
